The main thrust of this project was to air condition the sanctuary. The challenge and goal of the design and construction was to minimally disturb the appearance of the sanctuary. The air handling unit was installed in a storage loft and ducted to the adjacent sanctuary. We achieved a minimal visual impact by installing only two supply registers, two ceiling diffusers and two return registers in the sanctuary.

The construction occurred without affecting the church’s activities and scheduled events. We coordinated areas of work and mobilization and clean-up schedules to allow full usage of the church.

Task Performed

  • Frey Lutz installed a four-pipe air conditioning system that integrated the heating and air conditioning system in a way that a multiple split system could not.
  • A 30-ton air cooled condenser, a 30-ton evaporator chiller, a chilled water pump and chilled water piping were installed.
  • One air handling unit was installed that serves the sanctuary.
  • Existing hot water base boards were removed in most rooms and replaced with fan coil units which allowed individual room temperature control.
